Ulos is a weaving fabric originated from Batak in Sumatra Island with scarf shape. It is a symbol of love and unite. In literaly, ulos means blanket which cover and make warm to the body. But based on ancestral beliefs of Batak tribe, there are 3 sources which give warm ro human body, they are sun, fire, and ulos. From that 3 source of warm, ulos is assumed the most comfort one with daily livelihood.The ancient Batak Tribe was used to live in mountains, they are called "mountain men". It's because they life and cultivate in the mountains area. By living in a high land, they must face the cold weather, from that thing ulos is introduced.
In summary, the function of ulos is the same as blanket which we use to warm our body when sleeping.
The price of ulos is various. The little ulos can be bought with price aroud Rp 6.000-Rp 250.000 or $ 0.6 USD - $ 26 USD or more. whereas for the high class ulos with the best proccess of manufacturing can be bought around hunderd thousand until million rupiahs.For instance, the ulos batak for weedding ceremony of batak has the price Rp 7,5 Juta or $ 780 USD.
