A Reog (A Peacock with A Lion Head)

Reog Ponorogo is a traditional art from Ponorogo city, a small town in the East Java Island of Indonesia. A Reog is played by a person who wear a lion head mask combined with a bloom peacock feather. When a person want to play a reog, then he must be possessed with a haunts spirit. After being possessed, then he can lift a reog with his only teeth which has approximately 50kg weight. A reog is played as well as the music of reog is played by the drummers.
A reog often played accompanied by jarang kepang, a lady riding a horse with a good motion as good as melody. The horse which lady ride is not the real one, it is made from the bamboo webbing. Jaran kepang usually follow where the reog goes. Here is the picture of jaran kepang which is played by some girls.

Beside jaran kepang which accompany the show of reog, there are also pentol or barongan. A Barongan is played by a man. In the history barongan is the enemy of reog. Here is the picture of barongan

The players of reog or barongan are all possessed by the wild spirit. So they don't realize that they are playing this traditional dance or art. Wanna watch or try to play this dance? Come to Indonesia and find many remarkable cultures, arts and others. Regards. :)
