Taste of Indonesia: TEMPE

Tempe is traditional food which is made from the fermentation of the soy been or some other materials using rhizopus beans, such as  Rhizopus oligosporus, Rh. oryzae, Rh. stolonifer (kapang roti), or Rh. arrhizus. These fermentation materials in Indonesia is called "ragi tempe" in general.

Tempe is rich for calcium, vitamin B and zinc. Tempe also contents some medical value such as antibiotic to heal infection and antioxidant to prevent degenerative disease. Buy it easily

In general, tempe's color is white because of the growth of miselium beans which stick among soybeans so the shape of the tempe is condensed. The taste of tempe is so specific. It is savory when it is fried.
Tempe, nowdays, is consumed by almost all of Indonesia people. And not  only that, we can find tempe in some countries in this world outside Indonesia. The vegetarian all over the world  consume tempe to change meat for his meal. As the result, tempe is now produced in many places in this wolrd. 
Some countries conduct research about such as in Germany, Japan and also United States. Indonesia in now trying to develop the rhizopus to make tempe much faster than before and with great quality.
